Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera Model 2

Polaroid_SX70.gif

My father-in-law gave me this great old folding Polaroid camera a couple weeks ago. After doing some research on the camera I was disappointed to learn that the film was recently discontinued. It looks like the “Time-Zero” film is only available on Ebay. If anyone has some other good resources for getting some film, let me know.

Ebay is a great place to shop for the Polaroid SX-70. Here’s what is on Ebay right now:

i get mine at unsaleable.com, because i’m in europe. i heard they bought the last 9000 packs over here. it’s a matter of time before it’s all gone. and it’s not the camera, really. it’s the film. i’ve seen 600 film shot with an sx-70 and it’s not the same. i’m just sad i got turned on to it so late. hope you’ll be lucky

That is an amazingly interesting camera. I wish you the best on finding some film for it and I’m very intrigued to see the results.

The polaroid website has a guide to how to “convert” cameras that use the time-zero film or for alternatives here: http://www.polaroid.com/sx70/en/index.html

sx-70 “blend” film is available overseas and on ebay. however, you cannot manipulate the film as you could with the “time-zero” sx-70 film. in addition, the colors aren’t the same as the original film.

i ended up getting a “packfilter” which just slides into a type 600 or type 779 film cartridge. it gives you the same result as the ND filter modifications without all the (irreversible) hassle.

Thanks to Susanna for her comment. We have sold over 1,200 PackFilters, now [July 22]and have heard of some problems….but each time, it seems it is because the filter has NOT been inserted all the way in to the pack, OVER the dark slide, and UNDER the back edge of the pack. Remember…we’re trying to do something that was not intended, either by the camera or by the film! If the PackFilter persists in coming out, a tiny bit of transparent tape, over the back edge of the pack and just touching the filter will hold it in place against whatever static or goo is causing it to adhere to the picture. Any scratches are in the laminate, NOT in the filter material, so THE FILM CANNOT SEE THEM! And, if it gets dirty, you can simply wash it with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s really getting to be fun!

Fuji is now making compatible films. You can usually purchase it on photography store websites.
